The Saint Chartier International Festival of Instrument Makers and Master Pipers around July 14th : the biggest instrument making get together in Europe.
Every year, the village of Saint Chartier becomes an international crossroads where instrument makers and all lovers of traditional music meet. This event is a must, where musicians and music can meet via such instruments as the hurdy-gurdy, the bagpipes, the diatonic accordion, and many others.

Pottery
Extracted and worked since at least Roman times, the excellent stoneware clay present in the area means that the village of Verneuil has become a veritable village of potters. At the end of the nineteenth century, fifteen kilns were still working. Today, just one is left. This small traditional company was established more than a century ago, and carries on the tradition and craftsmanship of potters producing beautiful and unique objects for your table, on their wheels. Beautiful objects which bring together modern culinary expectations and the timeless quality of Black Valley Stoneware.

Paintings
Contemporary Art in La Châtre
Fred Deux, recognised today as one of the foremost draughtsmen of his time, has lived in the region since 1973 and in La Châtre since 1985. His work, at once disconcerting and fascinating, is inspired by the human body and its entrails. He also writes under the name of Jean Douassot (La Gana, Noeud Coulant, ...). Cécile Reims-Deux, his wife, is an engraver. She has transcribed the works of Hans Beller, Fred Deux, and Salvador Dali onto copper.
Gérard Deschamps is an artist associated with the New Realism movement, he lives in La Châtre. His paintings are ‘displays’(collages) made from everyday objects and fluorescent coloured material. He has participated in exhibitions both abroad and in France, in the most well-known museums and art galleries in the world of contemporary art.

Personalised decoration on all types of furniture : the art of painted furniture reached its height during the eighteenth century. In each European country, unique designs were created by artists for their customers, often inspired by traditional motifs. Nowadays, this custom is still appreciated for the gaiety and warmth of its designs.
